Dr. Terry Scarborough is a native of Clovis, New Mexico. He is recognized as a Center of Excellence® Surgeon by the Surgical Review Corporation, and is a member in good standing of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Recently named one of America;s Top Surgeons by Consumers Research Council of America, Dr. Scarborough has performed more than 4000 laparoscopic procedures, including over 1000 laparoscopic bariatric procedures.
Dr. Scarborough earned a degree in Pharmacy, with honors, from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. In 1993, Dr. Scarborough received his medical degree, also with honors, from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Dr. Scarborough performed his surgery residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He then completed a year-long fellowship in laparoscopic surgery, also at Baylor. During his fellowship year, Dr. Scarborough authored multiple articles in the field of laparoscopic surgery.
Once he completed his surgical training in Houston, Dr. Scarborough joined New Mexico Surgical Associates in Albuquerque. In May of 2000, he performed New Mexico’s first laparoscopic kidney transplant. Dr. Scarborough joined the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 2002, becoming a fellowship director in laparoscopic surgery. He was awarded for his outstanding work with medical students during this time.
In 2002, Dr. Scarborough began performing laparoscopic bariatric procedures following special training in laparoscopic gastric bypass and laparoscopic gastric banding. Dr. Scarborough joined Dr. Sherman Yu in private practice with Texas Laparoscopic Consultants in June, 2008.
Dr. Scarborough is a certified proctor for the Ethicon Endosurgery Corporation, a position which allows him to teach surgeons from around the country how to perform the Realize gastric banding procedure.
