Terry Scarborough, M.D.
Dr. Terry Scarborough grew up in Clovis, New Mexico. He graduated with honors from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque with a degree in Pharmacy. He received his medical degree with honors from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 1993. Dr. Scarborough completed his surgery residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and then continued on to complete a year-long fellowship there in laparoscopic surgery. During that year, he authored multiple articles in the field.
After completing his surgical training in Houston, he went back to Albuquerque and joined New Mexico Surgical Associates where he performed the first laparoscopic kidney transplant in New Mexico in May 2000. In 2002, he joined the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and became a fellowship director in laparoscopic surgery and was awarded for his outstanding work with medical students.
He began performing laparoscopic Bariatric procedures in 2002 after being trained specifically in laparoscopic gastric banding and laparoscopic gastric bypass. In June, 2008 Dr. Scarborough joined Dr. Sherman Yu in private practice with Texas Laparoscopic Consultants.
Recently, Dr. Scarborough was named one of America’s Top Surgeons by Consumers Research Council of America. He has been a Center of Excellence Surgeon as recognized by the Surgical Review Corporation and is a member in good standing of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He is a certified proctor for the Ethicon Endosurgery Corporation, teaching other surgeons around the country how to perform the Realize gastric banding procedure. He has performed over 4000 laparoscopic procedures including over 1000 laparoscopic Bariatric procedures.
